How to Submit Sitemap to Yahoo Site Explorer

Site Explorer allows you to explore all the your blog pages indexed by Yahoo Search. You can also view the most popular pages, dive into a comprehensive site map and find pages that link to your blog. Read more about Yahoo Site Explorer here.

This tutorial explains how to add your website or blog sitemap or RSS feed to Yahoo Site Explorer. You just need a Yahoo account to add these to the Site Explorer with the simple steps given below:

  1. Sign-in to Yahoo Site Explorer using your yahoo account.
  2. Type your site URL as shown in the image below and click Add My Site.

  4. Add the sitemap/RSS Feed of your site by clicking Feeds from the left menu.
  5. Yahoo Site Explorer

    Type your Feed URL in the space provided and click Add Feed.

    Example:
    Yahoo Site Explorer

    You can use any one the following feed URLs:
    For WordPress blogs:

    http://www.yoursite.com/feed

    http://yoursite.wordpress.com/feed

    For Blogger blogs:

    http://www.yoursite.com/rss.xml

    http://www.yoursite.com/feeds/posts/default

    http://yoursite.blogspot.com/rss.xml

    http://yoursite.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default

    You should see your sitemap/feed listed in Feeds section as shown below:

  6. Next you need to authenticate your site by going to Authentication from the left menu. You will be having two options for this:
    1. By uploading a verification file to your site
    2. By adding a META tag to your home page

    Example – By adding a META tag to my home page

    Click on By adding a META tag to my home page and copy the META TAGS provided to you:

  7. Paste the Meta Tag in the header section of your site template.
  8. Blogger Users:

    • Go to Blogger Dashboard – Design – Edit HTML- then paste the Meta Tag just below the following line in the top header section and save the template:

      <b:include data="blog" name="all-head-content"/>

      WordPress Users:
      Paste the Meta Tag in the Header.php file under Theme Editor and save the template.

  9. Finally, click Ready to Authenticate to complete the procedure!

It may take up to 24 hours to get your site authenticated.

    Failed to authenticate your site ownership due to the following reasons:

    * We looked for the Meta tag on your site’s home page: http://www.thefilipinochannel.co.cc. We did not find the meta key 02b64e725215bc37 in the page.

    Error: Key found but position limit exceeded

    Try:
    o Fetch the page from your browser.
    o Check the content of the file using “View Source” on your browser.
    o Check that the Meta Tag is in the source of the page.
    o Check that the Meta Tag is AFTER the first tag.
    o Check that the Meta Tag is BEFORE the first tag.
    *
    We were unable to fetch the verification file (y_key_268cbe35116e6bc7.html) from your site.

    Error: not found (http 404)

    Try:
    o Make sure the file is installed.
    o Fetch the file from your browser.
    o Check the content of the file using “View Source” on your browser.
    o It should look like:

    o If the file looks OK, ask your website hosting service if they are blocking Yahoo! Slurp.

    Retry Authentication

    There is no scope for any error if you read and do all the steps properly. If you are still getting the error, try again after changing your theme.

    I wish I had known this when I started my site six months ago. I was checking my indexed pages on Yahoo and I only had one. So today I finally registered and verified, stupid me! Thanks for the info.
