Don’t Cast your Pearls before Swine

Swine is considered as an animal with dirty habits. It likes to feed on waste. Swine has no instinct for anything worthy and clean even if that is offered before it. So it is useless to cast good and worthy things such as pearls or diamonds before swine as it cannot recognize their value. Similarly if we offer beautiful flowers to a blind man, he will be unable to see and appreciate their beauty.

Among us, there are people who are foolish and mean, they cannot recognize anything wise nor do anything that is good. They are stubborn people who will never listen to reason or wise and worthy advice. So it will be useless task and waste of time to talk to such people.

In the proverb, the pearl metaphorically mean wise and worthy things and swine stands for stubborn people who cannot recognize the worth and value of such things or advice. Only a wise man can recognize a worthy thing. Others don’t play attention to such things in life.
